Middle Class


  • A quarter middle class: Using a monthly per capita income of R2,250 or more to identify those in the middle class, there are around 7.5 million adults (16+) in this market segment. (AMPS 2007 RA)


  • State of the middle class: 52% of black people earning R8,000 or more per month are employed by the state or a state owned enterprise. (LSF 2006)
